Urban Decay Afterglow Blush in Obsessed

Urban Decay recently released a line of blushes called Afterglow. They claim that the color lasts 8 hours and they come in a wide range of shades.

I purchased the shade Obsessed while I was out shopping as I had been on the fence about getting yet another blush.

Let’s take a look at the insides.

Here’s the description from Urban Decay.

Want a sexy, lit-from-within glow that will make ‘em wonder if you spent the weekend in a secret love den? Fake a perfect flush with our Afterglow 8-Hour Powder Blush. Like the lingering effects of a romantic rendezvous, Afterglow won’t quit. Wait until you feel it. Lightweight yet luxurious, Afterglow has a soft, creamy texture that always applies beautifully. Our extremely blendable, finely milled formula goes on sheer and provides EIGHT long hours of wearable, streak-free color. The lineup? A range of scintillating shades…some with a matte finish, and others with a hint of shimmer. From pink to mauve to red-orange, there’s something for everyone.

We finely milled the right balance of coated powders and pigments to create Afterglow’s perfect, super-soft texture. This method results in color that glides on effortlessly and blends beautifully (without the powdery buildup of cheaper formulas). We also infused the formula with light-diffusing pigments to enhance and perfect the skin.

Not only does Afterglow look amazing on the skin, but you’ll look good using it. Our gorgeous, custom gunmetal compact features a see-through fishnet “UD” cutout on the lid (so you can easily see the right shade without opening the compact).

Let’s talk some packaging. The case is a very hard plastic that has a metallic finish. As you can see in the first picture, it picks up fingerprints rather easily, but that’s not a deal breaker for me. The clasp is magnetic and isn’t incredibly strong, but not super weak either. It’ll keep it closed, but I wouldn’t risk traveling with it unless you pack carefully. The little cut out is nice so you can see what color it is, but there is also a huge sticker on the bottom with the color as well. I’d give it 4.5/5.

On to the performance!

Swatches were indoors due to weather. Sorry about that!

Ok, so these swatches are in the shade Obsessed and I’m going to be honest here, I’m a bit obsessed myself. I adore the color and the fact it’s buildable. You can get a sheer wash of color with a light hand, but if you want to pack it on, you can do that as well. I’ve worn it a few times already and I feel while 8 hours is a long claim, it has lasted 5-6 hours with ease. Texture is nice and soft and it applies smoothly without patchiness. It builds up rather easily which is a nice change from the tarte blushes I’ve been using. There is a slight hint of shimmer, but you’re not going to look like a discoball while wearing this blush.

Pros: Buildable, pigmented, smooth application, long lasting

Cons: While there are 12 shades, there are only 2 pinks and a single purple. Not many cool-toned options.

Final thoughts: These are great blushes and I highly suggest them if you have the money. The downside is that while there are 12 shades, only 3 of them would work with my cool toned skin as the rest are orange-y or brown. I see myself picking up Quickie and Bittersweet in the future.

You can buy the Afterglow blushes wherever Urban Decay is sold. It retails for $26 on the UD website.
